Complete Guide: Batch Production Rule & Work Order Scheduling

Objective

To automate work order planning and scheduling by defining a Batch Cycle Time Rule that ensures the system auto-calculates production duration based on fixed batch sizes — improving accuracy, efficiency, and visibility in batch production.

Step 1 — Define the Batch Cycle Time Rule

  1. Go to the top menu: Masters  → Cycle Time Rules.

  1. Select the Batch Production Rule tab.

  2. Click + New on the top-right corner.

  1. In the rule-type dropdown, choose Batch Production.

  1. Fill in the following fields:

    • Machine Group: Mixing M/C01

    • Item Group Tag: FX0489303

    • Process: MIXING

    • Seconds: 1000 (≈ 16 m 40 s)

    • Batch Qty: 10

  1. Click Submit to save.
The system now understands that producing (10 units) takes 16 minutes 40 seconds.

Step 2 — Create a Sales Order

  1. Go to Orders → Sales Orders.

  1. Click + New SO.

  2. Enter order details:

    • Customer: Puma

    • Customer Ref #: po-890080

    • Type of Order: Customer SO

    • Issue Date: 22-10-2025

    • Delivery Date: 24-10-2025

    • Department: 5678

  3. Add item lines:

    • Item Code: FX0489303

    • Item Name: Chemical Solution

    • Quantity: 100 L

  1. Click Submit.
The Sales Order 1/2510/010 is created successfully.

Step 3 — Plan the Order

  1. When prompted, select Plan this order.

  2. The order opens in a unit view showing stages such as:

    • Planning and Scheduling

    • Production

    • Packaging

    • Shipment

  3. Under Item Details, click Finalize BOM.

  1. Select the listed item (FX0489303 – Chemical Solution) and click Save.
You’ll see a message: “Finalized Production BOM Successfully.”

Step 4 — Create a Work Order

  1. From the same Unit 1/2510/010 screen, click Create → Work Order.

  1. This opens the Machine Scheduling window.

Step 5 — Open Machine Scheduling

  1. In the scheduling screen, find the machine Mixing M/C01.

  2. Hover on its timeline and click + Create Work Order.

Step 6 — Schedule the Work Order

  1. The Schedule WO on Mixing M/C01 window appears.

  2. All fields such as Schedule, Date, Item, and Process are filled automatically from the system.

  3. Enter only the WO Qty (e.g., 21 ).

  4. Click Review Changes.
System auto-applies the Batch Cycle Time Rule to calculate total duration (≈ 50 min for 21 ).

Step 7 — Confirm and Create

  1. Review the timeline summary:

    • Start Time: 22 Oct 17:00

    • End Time: 22 Oct 17:50

  2. Click Create.
The Work Order is now scheduled on Mixing M/C01.

Step 8 — Verify the Planned Schedule

  1. In Machine Scheduling, you’ll see a new bar under the Mixing M/C01 timeline.

  2. Hover to check details:

    • Work Order #: WO/12510010/01

    • Customer: Puma (po-890080)

    • Process: MIXING (16 m 40 s)

    • Duration: 50 minutes

Step 9 — Production Execution

  • The planned order now appears on the Production Board for operators.

  • As production progresses, operators record each batch cycle.

  • The system ensures each batch follows the defined fixed cycle time for accurate capacity and timeline tracking.

Conclusion

By defining a Batch Cycle Time Rule, ManufApp automates the calculation of production time and capacity across different batch quantities.
This ensures:

  • Accurate and consistent cycle time tracking

  • Auto-scheduling of machines based on batch logic

  • Improved production visibility and delivery planning

Result: Manufacturers achieve better control, predictability, and efficiency in batch-based production workflows.
