How to Create a Similar BOM

How to Create a Similar BOM

Objective

To simplify BOM creation for variant items (different size, color, or attributes) by reusing an existing BOM’s structure. This reduces manual effort, saves time, and ensures process consistency across SKUs.

Step 1: Go to Items

  • From the top menu, navigate to Masters→ Items.

  • This will open the Item List page.

Step 2: Select Target Item

  • In the Item List, find and select the Finished Good (FG) for which you want to create a Similar BOM.

  • Example: Select FG00009 – CHBM 1313/14/KH.

Step 3: Choose “Create Similar BOM”

  • In the BOM tab, click Create Similar BOM.

  • A pop-up will appear asking you to select the source item.

Step 4: Select Source Item

  • Pick the item whose BOM structure you want to copy.

  • Example: Select FG00008 – MATAS/HARRISON/42R/SLI.

Step 5: Map Attributes

  • The system will show attribute mapping between Source Item and Target Item (e.g., Color, Item Name, Size).

  • Confirm or adjust the mappings as required.

Step 6 :(Optional) Import Raw Materials

  • Tick the checkbox “Import Raw Materials from source” if you also want to bring RMs along with the structure.

  • Otherwise, only the operations/sequence will be copied.

6. Create Similar BOM

  • Click Create Similar BOM.

  • The system will generate WIPs and BOM structure for the target item based on the source.

7. Verify

  • The newly created BOM will appear under the target item.

  • Check WIP and RM mappings before finalizing.

Conclusion

The Similar BOM feature allows quick replication of operations/sequence while giving flexibility to remap WIPs/RMs. It prevents errors from exact BOM copying, standardizes production flows, and accelerates onboarding of new product variants.
