How to Create an Item Group Using Default Item Groups

How to Create an Item Group Using Default Item Groups

Before you set up items in ManufApp, getting the Item Groups right is essential. They decide your attributes, UOMs, nomenclature rules, and how clean your database stays over time. Most teams struggle when factories or users create groups in different ways. That’s where Default Item Groups help β€” they give you ready-made, industry-standard structures so your data stays consistent from day one.

Objective

To help users quickly create standardized Item Groups using predefined defaults. These defaults include the right attributes, units, nomenclature rules, and tags already filled in, which reduce setup time, prevent manual errors, and keep Item Groups consistent across teams and sites.

Step 1: Open the Item Master

  1. Go to the top navigation bar.

  1. Click Masters β†’ Items.

  2. This opens the Item Master section, where you can manage Item Groups and Items.

Step 2: Open Default Item Groups

  1. Click the + NEW button on the top right.

  2. From the dropdown, select Use Default Group.

  1. A Default Item Groups pop-up will open, showing standard groups like Sheet, Pipe, Diode, Switchgear, Relay, Bus bar, Wire and cable, etc.

Step 3: Choose a Default Group

  1. In the Default Item Groups pop-up, find the group you want to use (for example, Sheet).

  2. Click Use in the Actions column for that row.

Step 4: Review Auto-Filled Item Group

The system opens the Add New Item Group page with details pre-filled:

  • Title (e.g., Sheet)

  • Item Type (e.g., RM)

  • Unit (e.g., pieces)

  • Attributes like Type, Width, Length, Thickness, Grade

  • Nomenclature settings, code prefix, and name sequence

You can edit any field if required:

  • Change unit or sites

  • Add/remove attributes

  • Adjust nomenclature or prefix

  • Add Item Group Tags if needed

Step 5: Save the Item Group

  1. After reviewing and adjusting the details, click Submit.

  2. The new Item Group is created using the default structure.

Step 6: Verify in Item Group List

  1. You’re taken back to the Item Group list.

  2. Search for the group you just created (e.g., Sheet).

  3. Confirm that:

    • The Item Type, Unit, and Attributes are correct.

    • The group is now available for creating items under it.

Conclusion

Default Item Groups take the guesswork out of setup. Instead of configuring attributes and rules from scratch, you start with a clean industry-ready structure and tweak it only if required. This keeps your master data consistent, reduces onboarding time, and ensures every factory or team follows the same standards inside ManufApp.
