In many cases, the unit in which material is purchased is different from the unit in which stock is maintained.
For example:
Stock Unit: meter
Purchase Unit: roll
Material is purchased in rolls, but the system tracks stock in meters
Alternate Units allow you to define multiple units of measurement for an item (e.g., pieces, tons, or transactional units). This is especially useful for converting between purchase, production, and inventory units.
If you are not able to see Alternate Unit in the system, the most common reason is:
👉 Alternate Unit is not enabled at Site Level
To fix this, follow Step 0 below.
Go to
Masters > Configuration
Open your site and go to:
Inventory & Tracking Configuration
Enable Alternate Unit = Yes
Navigate to:
Masters > Items
Search for the item you want to configure.
📌 Example: ITEM00018
Click on the item name to open its detail view.
Step 3: Open the Alt Unit Tab
In the item details page, click on the Alt Unit tab to access unit configuration settings.
You’ll see two sections:
Purchase/Base Unit – Unit used during purchasing
Production Unit – Unit used during manufacturing
For each, select:
The Unit (e.g., piece, TU)
The Conversion Ratio (e.g., 1 TU = 10 pieces)
Add multiple combinations if needed.
Once your units and conversion ratios are configured, click Submit to save.
